WHY:

New Mexico regularly ranks as one of the hungriest states in the nation. One out of six New Mexicans is at risk of going hungry in the next 30 days because they lack food or the ability to buy it.  Roadrunner Food Bank feeds approximately 240,000 New Mexicans a year through a network of 600 partner agencies and 6 regional food banks.  Every $1 donated is turned into $12 worth of food.

Hunger increases during the summer after school lets out and the free lunch program ends. Struggling low income families must replace those meals, pay for childcare and now much higher gasoline and food costs. They turn to the emergency food networks for help. Food Banks across the nation see financial and food donations drop off during the summer as demand is increasing. The result is a short supply of food for needy families.
