2013 Green Initiatives

Our 2013 year focused a great deal on internal activities:

Going paperless both in the warehouse and finance.  For 13 years, we had labored along with the same Finance and Inventory systems. That also meant that our processes had not advanced much either. Since we were upgrading the system, it was a good time to evaluate and revamp our internal processes, too.  We found we generated a lot of paper. When we received product, it resulted in a paper record. When we moved product, more paper. When we paid for product, still more paper.  At the end of the month, we sent paper invoices to our agencies.  Not only were we using too much paper, we then had to store paper records for years, which are harder to search and reference when needed.  We’ve now automated all of those processes and eliminated all of those pieces of paper, saving the food bank both time and money, while helping us be much greener.

We’d love to implement a bar coding system that would eliminate even more paper copies and help us be faster with higher quality. If you are interested in being a donor to help fund this process, please let us know.
