Accounting Assistant
General Description:
This is a full-time position
working with the Director of Finance to manage the Food Bank's Finance
Department. The Accounting Assistant is responsible for Accounts
Payable and Accounts Receivable functions and other financial and
accounting duties as assigned by the Director of
Finance.
Duties will include:

Performing administrative support for the Finance Director
-
Developing proficiency in financial accounting software
-
Processing Accounts Payable to include cost coding invoices,
posting purchase orders, data entry, credit memos, check
processing and filing
-
Processing Accounts Receivable to include coding donations,
processing receivable checks, applying payments to accounts,
customer statements and data entry
-
Communicating with agencies, vendors and donors
-
Performing research as required and ability to problem-solve to
maintain accuracy of financial records
-
Preparing and completing reports and mailings as assigned
-
Completing credit applications and other routine requests for
financial information
-
Assisting with month-end closing responsibilities
-
Creating
and maintaining accounting spreadsheets
-
Assisting with special events and media events as required
-
Supervise maintenance and timely destruction of records
-
Complying with
Finance Department and Food Bank policies, systems, and
procedures
-
Completing assignments within the Food
Bank’s 5-year Strategic Plan as directed
-
Maintaining confidential computer and paper filing systems
-
Operating office machines and equipment such as PC, Printer,
Photocopier, and Fax Machine
-
Preparing Microsoft® Excel®,
PowerPoint®, and Word® documents as required
-

Minimum
Candidate Attributes:
-
Associate's Degree in related field
-
Two (2) years experience in accounting with
emphasis on A/P & A/R
-
Strong analytical and problem
solving skills
-
Minimum of one (1) year experience using comprehensive
Business/Financial Management software
-
Intermediate proficiency in using relational databases
-
Ability to read, analyze, and
interpret general business periodicals, professional journals,
and technical procedures
-
High-intermediate proficiency in Microsoft®
Office System® suite including
Word®, Excel®, and Outlook®
-
Possess strong verbal and written communication skills
-
Ability to prioritize, organize, manage time, and multi-task
-
Ability to
communicate and ensure compliance with departmental directives
-
Ability to pass pre-employment drug screen and
comprehensive background check
-
Have a valid New Mexico driver’s license

Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent training) in
related field

Three (3) or more years experience as an Accounting Clerk with
emphasis on Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable

and Outlook®

Advanced proficiency in using relational databases
-
Previous experience in nonprofit accounting

The Food Bank is looking for an Accounting
Assistant with very strong A/P
and A/R skills who has extensive experience
working in a fast paced financial environment. Must be able to
work independently or within a collaborative team and have the ability
to complete high priority and/or high profile projects within a timely
manner.
