Tomorrow (Saturday May 14th), you have a huge opportunity to help us at Roadrunner Food Bank “Stamp Out Hunger” for the more than +358,000 hungry people across New Mexico, including +136,000 children statewide!

All you have to do is leave one (or more) paper/plastic bags filled with non-perishable food at your mailbox before your letter carrier arrives on Saturday. From there, your letter carrier will bring it to their postal location for unloading and sorting by Roadrunner staff and volunteers.

In addition to feeding hungry New Mexicans with your donation, you’re also helping children and families through the hungriest time of year when school breakfasts and lunches close down for months— the summer. We recently heard from Vivian Lucero, a teacher at Duranes Elementary School serving Albuquerque, about the ability to continue food distributions for families in need even when school meals close down:

“Here at Duranes Elementary we have many families that are so thankful for the Hunger Initiative Program. As a volunteer, I’m able to talk to our families and find out how they feel about the program. One family in particular has been coming every month since our program started. This grandmother is raising her three grandchildren and she works a night job and has a health problems. Every time she comes for the food, she can’t thank us enough for all Roadrunner does for our school and for her family. She stresses less about what she will put on her table because of the food she receives. We also have the three children on the backpack program to help her. She looks forward to talking to people from the Blue Cross Blue Shield Van. They offer her so much information! She’s had their flu shots and blood pressure taken when they visit here. She is very thankful for the program and so are the children!”

Help us help families like ones described by Vivian all across New Mexico by donating food for Stamp Out Hunger this Saturday! Last year’s Stamp Out Hunger brought in more than +209,000 pounds of food across the Albuquerque area and we would love to surpass this amount this year! Special thanks to the National Association of Letter Carriers and to the National Rural Letter Carriers Association for their support! Thank you!
