received two major awards: For the organization, The New
Mexico Ethics in Business Award, non-profit category,
and, the Executive Director, Melody Wattenbarger, has been

Wattenbarger, the staff and volunteers are extremely
dedicated to getting the highest quality and quantity of
food onto the tables of hungry New Mexicans. It is

thousands of volunteers and (a small) paid staff, Roadrunner
makes sure that its ethical standards are at the core of its
being, and, are met and maintained.” Roadrunner Food Bank

FOOD FOR KIDS Update

In an effort to provide other services to the needy families
on the Food for Kids program, we've added some
additional benefits to participating schools. Not only do
the schools have access to and use of the Emergency Family
Food Boxes for their families in crisis, but they are also
now considered official referral agencies for their local
and closest food pantry. These two efforts should guarantee
that no family goes hungry while searching for the full
support they need.
To help address the longer term needs of the families, Food
for Kids schools will have the option to be a remote site in
the Food Stamp Participation Project being conducted by the
New Mexico Association of Food Banks. The project's goal is
to increase food stamp participation among all
eligible people. One key activity is the location of a food
stamp eligibility worker in the community - outside of the
Income Support Divisions' offices. Starting this month with
Los Padillas and Pajarito elementary schools as our first
test sites, we've become an official part of the program. In
preparation for this, the schools completed a training that
will allow them to assist the social worker and families
through the application process. The school volunteers now
have the skills and knowledge to walk a family through the
application process and gather a complete set of supporting
documents

SENIOR HELPINGS
Update
Thank you very much to the volunteers who came forward to
help with Senior Helpings box delivery from last month's
request. So far, we've been able to send several
volunteer drivers to at least two of our agencies. Two
additional agencies could use still assistance. If you can
help, please call Teresa Johansen at 247-2052 ext 124 or
send her an
EMAIL. Our seniors
really appreciate the effort. |

EMERGENCY FOOD FOR FAMILIES Program
We now have all of our agency sites up and running.
The Emergency
Food for Families boxes
for families in crisis can be obtained through the Food for
Kids Program, UNM Hospitals and Advocacy, Inc. Since this
program has begun, the referral calls received by Roadrunner
Food Bank from families in crisis has dropped significantly
showing the success of the program in reaching needy
families.
