National Dairy Council Grant Updates!

Back in January, Roadrunner received a generous $10,000 grant from the National Dairy Council. Thanks to such funding, Roadrunner granted cold storage to 20 agencies because 7 of these agencies had no cold storage prior to the grant.

Six months since distributing out allocations of this grant money to several local partner agencies, we wanted to check in and see how much in pounds and needs alike these agencies can now meet with newer coolers, freezers, and refrigerators. Since then, these agencies alone have increased their distribution dramatically (e.g. cheese, milk, yogurt, meat, produce). Overall perishable food distribution among our partners has now increased to more than 11,000 pounds per month!

Of our original partner agency recipients, we have additional exciting news to share from:

  • The New Mexico Veterans Integration Center (Albuquerque, Bernalillo County) – According to their Food Director Lisa Martinez, “From early January through June 3rd, we’ve distributed approximately 6,575 pounds of perishable foods through our new refrigerators and freezers.”

  • St. Alice Parish Food Pantry (Mountainair, Torrance County) –According to their Pantry Assistant Brenda Hall, “The one new refrigerator and one new freezer have been working very well; 133 families in total now receive our food distribution.”

  • The Storehouse (Albuquerque, Bernalillo County) – According to Program Manager Margaret Trujillo, “Our set of new coolers for perishable food distribution has been a blessing. We’ve noticed an increase in young families since the beginning of the summer, and fortunately we can meet more of their needs.”

Thanks to the National Dairy Council for their generosity; to our participating partner agencies for leveraging such support to meet increasing needs; and to all of you for sustaining the work we do to feed more of our New Mexican communities!
