Hunters Helping the Hungry

NM-H3 Logo - croppedThe New Mexico Hunters Helping the Hungry is a program that allows hunters to donate game meat for the benefit of providing it to hungry people across the state. Any hunter who legally hunts deer or elk during the hunting season can donate all or a portion of their hunted game.

The program encourages and accepts monetary donations to help pay for and defray the cost of processing, butchering and prepping the meat. Once the meat is handled by an approved and certified meat processor, the game meat is given to Roadrunner Food Bank or one of its affiliated partner agencies for distribution.  Roadrunner Food Bank’s network of partner agencies includes food pantries, soup kitchens and other hunger-relief programs.

DONATE HERE TO HELP PAY FOR BUTCHERING AND PROCESSING FEES

How the Hunters Helping the Hungry Works:

  • Hunters field dress the meat and deliver it to the nearest participating meat processor.
  • Only legally hunted or confiscated elk or deer game can be donated.  Any animal killed by being struck by a vehicle MAY NOT be donated
  • Hunters are not charged for processing the donated meat, however, hunters may voluntarily pay processing fees should they wish.
  • Meat processor safely handle and prep the meat and contact Roadrunner Food Bank to arrange for pick up.
  • The Food Bank picks up the meat or coordinates the donation to be picked up with one of its approved partner agencies.
  • The donated meat is then distributed to people experiencing hunger.
