Skill-Based Volunteer Opportunities

Roadrunner Food Bank offers a variety of ongoing skill-based volunteer opportunities. The list below focuses on volunteers who have the ability to travel short distances of about 30-45 minutes away.

PROGRAM AMBASSADOR
Location and Description: Albuquerque and Las Cruces.  Program Ambassadors work closely with Roadrunner’s partner agencies (food pantries, meal programs, etc.) in addressing their needs and helping them build capacity to feed more hungry people. Some of the assistance an Ambassador might provide would be technology support, pantry organization, volunteer recruitment and retention, and fundraising.
Training: Initial interview, 20 hours of training
Time Commitment: Minimum of 12 agency visits per year
Necessary Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication ability, knack for problem solving, patience, great listening skills, ability to travel, basic computer knowledge
Desirable Skills: Advanced computer knowledge, fluent in Spanish
Volunteers Needed: 5

RETAIL DONOR LIAISON FOR FOOD RESCUE
Location and Description: Albuquerque and Las Cruces.  Volunteers contact and visit Food Rescue partners across the state. These partners primarily are grocery stores, growers, food manufacturers, food distributors and other food industry donors who supply a majority of the food in our warehouse.
Training: Initial interview, 2-4 hours with Food Rescue Manager
Time Commitment: 5-10 hours a week
Necessary Skills: Ability to travel, excellent customer service skills, excellent interpersonal skills, flexible, basic computer knowledge
Desirable Skills: Retail experience helpful
Volunteers Needed: 2-3

SNAP OUTREACH FIELD VOLUNTEER
Location and Description: Albuquerque and Las Cruces.  Volunteers for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Outreach will be fully trained to provide application assistance at events and agencies within the community. Help us as we seek to bridge the gap between available funding and those in need of assistance.
Training: 6 hours total (2 hour initial training, 4 hours field shadowing)
Time Commitment: Minimum 4 hours per month, expected 3 month commitment
Necessary Skills: Excellent customer service, patience, great listening skills, ability to travel, desire to work directly with clients
Desirable Skills: Fluent in Spanish
Volunteers Needed: Albuquerque – 10 / Las Cruces – 10
