NEW MEXICO GROCERY STORES AND FOOD RESCUE

According to the USDA, 30 to 40 percent of all the food in America is wasted. That statistic is upsetting when considering how many people need access to food — especially in New Mexico since 70,000 hungry people seek help from charitable hunger programs every week. Our food rescue program works with grocery stores and other food industry partners around the state to “capture” and “rescue” unsold food to help our network of member partners and hunger programs across the state.

Here are some of the items grocery store donate:

  • Partial cases
  • Overruns
  • Bulk or food service sized items
  • Discontinued items
  • Mislabeled items
  • Perishable items
  • Packaging changes on items
  • Promotional or seasonal items
  • Cosmetically imperfect items, aka ugly food ugly food

We are always in need of:

  • Canned meats and fish
  • Canned fruits and vegetables
  • Stews and soups
  • Peanut butter and  other nut butters
  • Rice, beans and pasta
  • Dry or packaged goods
  • Meat
  • Dairy
  • Produce
  • Juices
  • Shelf stable milk or other shelf stable milks like coconut milk, almond milk, etc.
  • Hygiene products, cleaning supplies and paper goods

We have a fleet of refrigerated trucks to transport donated goods from grocery store partners to our distribution center or affiliated member partner sites. If you are a grocery store who wants to partner with us, contact us and ask for our food rescue manager.

With your gifts of food, we can continue to help 70,000 hungry children, adults, veterans, and senior citizens every week in New Mexico. Donating excess food through our Food Rescue program gives food to those who need it as quickly as possible, but offers you a tax incentive as well.
