Give Food

As the largest food bank in New Mexico, Roadrunner® Food Bank takes in millions and millions of pounds of donated and rescued food to sort, store, and distribute to our statewide hunger relief network. Each week, we help to feed 70,000 hungry New Mexicans. Donating food is an excellent way to help us with our mission of ending hunger in New Mexico. Food industry partners can participate in our food rescue program. Individuals, groups and businesses in the community can take part by hosting a food and fund drive for Roadrunner Food Bank. Your efforts and support help us provide millions and millions of pounds of food to solve hunger for many low-income children, adults, seniors and families. Thank you for making a difference!

Food Industry Partners and Food Rescue

Most of the food on the shelves at Roadrunner Food Bank is captured through our Food Rescue Program from our grocery store and food industry partners. These partnerships allow us to capture millions of pounds of food every year, including fresh fruit and vegetables to distribute across the state. Access to nutritious food is often more difficult in rural communities or food insecure households which often don’t have the ability to afford nutritious food.  Plus, as we partner with healthcare sites as part of our Health and Wellness Initiative, we can source and then distribute nutritious food to those facing a chronic health issue and hunger simultaneously.

Food obtained through food rescue comes from all across the country and right here in New Mexico, too. As part of our relationship with Feeding America, we collaborate with 200 member food banks member to source food collectively. We share loads when they are available, help each other to find new sources of food, and work with national food industry partners at the local level to capture food that would otherwise go to waste.

Food Donations From the Community

Individuals, groups, organizations and businesses can also donate food to Roadrunner Food Bank. We always accept donations of food items at the food bank during business hours. Some community members host a Food and Fund Drive on our behalf, and others drop off periodic food donations to us as they are able. If you are bringing in several bags of food, please visit our main lobby to drop the food off. If you are bringing a vehicle full of food, please stop in our lobby first. From there we will provide details how to enter our our south gate and pull into one of our available docks to unload.
