CHILDHOOD HUNGER INITIATIVE
Hunger can have immediate and lasting effects on children during the most crucial developmental stage in their lives. Our Childhood Hunger Initiative (CHI) aims to feed children by feeding the entire family.
The Childhood Hunger Initiative (CHI) serves child hunger through schools partnering with Roadrunner to receive food from programs like:
- School Pantries – Provides each school the opportunity to create a school-based or on-site food pantry allowing families to receive help anytime during the school year.
- Mobile Pantries – Every month families at participating schools receive a monthly mobile or “traveling” food pantry held at the school’s location
- Backpacks – Supplemental food for a parent/guardian unable to pick up food from the school. A small amount is sent home in a backpack with the child to help the family get through a few days.
- Summer Feeding Program – Ready-to-eat, non-perishable meals to rural and hard-to-reach communities through the federal Summer Food Service Program (SFSP).
