LEARN ABOUT GROUP VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

When our community comes together to help our fellow New Mexicans in need, great things happen! Providing food to our hungry neighbors is possible because our community raises their hands to help out and volunteer.

Small and large groups of five or more are always welcome to volunteer at Roadrunner Food Bank® of New Mexico. Group volunteers typically help in our Albuquerque warehouse and help prep food to be distributed to hungry people across New Mexico. Volunteers help sort food, re-pack bulk food, box/bag food, place and stack food on pallets. They often help out food distributions too. We can typically accommodate larger groups of 30 per volunteer shift.

Types of Groups that Volunteer

  • Faith-based and faith community groups
  • Elementary, middle school, high school, and university groups (children eight and older may volunteer with the appropriate number of adults escorting the group)
  • Other charities
  • Families and friends
  • Civic, fraternal, or community-based groups
  • Businesses and companies as a team building opportunity

Tips for Group Volunteers

  • Complete the Group Volunteer Form for 5 or more people at least three weeks prior to your requested date/time. Provide as many details as possible.
  • We can accommodate both small and large groups (up to 30) per volunteer shift.
  • Submitting the online group form notifies us about your request. We will get in touch with you to let you know if that date and time is available. If it isn’t available, we will work with you to make a plan that works for everyone.
  • It is important for your entire group and those chaperoning children read and understand our Policies and FAQs document below.
  • If you need to change, re-schedule, or cancel your group volunteer activity, please let us know at least 24 hours in advance. Our staff spends time preparing for your visit and we want to be sure we are ready for your group. Use the contact information at the bottom of this page to reach us.
  • Group volunteers helping in our warehouse work near large equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks. Volunteers should be in relatively good health to perform tasks that may be physically demanding. Tasks involve lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, bending, and reaching.
  • Group volunteer shifts are a minimum of two hours; however, we are able to register your group for additional hours should you prefer.
  • Group volunteers may also be broken up into two shifts to accommodate volunteer groups larger than 30.

Tips for Bringing Groups with Children/Teens to Volunteer

  • Children eight years old and up may volunteer with the appropriate number of adults chaperoning them in our warehouse.
  • Children 15 years and under must have 1 adult chaperone for every 4 children or teens helping.
  • Children must be 12 years or older to work in our clean rooms.
  • Teens 16 and older may volunteer without an adult chaperone, unless it is part of a school or organization activity.
  • Teens volunteering at drive through distributions (held out in the community away from the food bank) must be 16 years or older and accompanied by an adult.

Reminders for our Volunteers

  • Shoes must be closed-toe and closed-heel and offer protection against hazards.
  • Shirts must have sleeves over the shoulder (no tank tops or muscle shirts).
  • Shorts or skirts must be mid-length or mid-thigh.
