SEEDCORPS AMERICORPS PROGRAM

Our SeedCorps AmeriCorps Program is temporarily paused from recruiting new members.

The food bank team is reviewing recruitment plans to implement for the fall of 2024.  Anyone completing an application may still do so using the yellow button and links below, however, our team will not reach out until after August 2024. Thanks for understanding.

Roadrunner® Food Bank’s SeedCorps AmeriCorps is a program of Roadrunner Food Bank in collaboration with the Serve New Mexico Commission. The formation of Roadrunner’s SeedCorps Program occurred in 2018. It was created to enhance services and strengthen partnerships that provide additional support to help low-income children, seniors, adults and families at current food distribution locations. SeedCorps members actively provide:

  1. Nutrition education to address the health benefits of eating fresh fruits and vegetables to maintain an active lifestyle
  2. Information to people struggling with poverty and hunger to understand where and how to access public benefits
  3. Increased awareness of existing local resources beyond food assistance needs.

Additionally, SeedCorps members assist partner distribution sites by actively recruiting volunteers and are the core crew of personnel expanding emergency food distribution in times of crisis.

Thoughts from current or previous SeedCorps Members

“I think what I enjoyed most about serving as a SeedCorps members was getting to experience the different aspects of the food business both from the food banking side and as well as serving at my site. My SeedCorps service allowed me to get a little deeper and to have more exposure of this whole process of feeding hungry people than I would have not had if I was just a regular volunteer or in some other position.”

Paul Lesnik

“I enjoyed getting to know all the different communities. I was assigned seven distributions throughout Dona Ana county and I really enjoyed getting to know them. They are so unique and the community, as much as they did need the help, they were all very humble and they liked to interact with you…I really enjoyed getting to know everybody and getting to connect with them on a more human level than ‘Here’s a box of food and go on your way.’”

Demi Snell

“I enjoyed having an opportunity to interact with community members in a way I never have in the past. It was refreshing to build relationships with folks coming to the Healthy Food Center and Healthy Food Markets on a weekly and bi-weekly basis. For me, that was my favorite part of the last year.”
