Food Distribution Volunteers

Food distributions are primarily mobile, pop up sites that happen out in the community away from the food bank’s warehouse. How the food is distributed varies from “a shopping” experience to a drive through format. The locations may be indoor or outdoor and can occur in parking lots to conference rooms to event centers. People receiving our services pick from various food items including non-perishable foods, nutritious food such as fruits, vegetables, dairy, meat and other perishable items to take home and prepare nutritious meals.

Our team always needs the helping hands of volunteers to assist at these community-based distributions.  Volunteers should dress for the weather (if working at an outdoor distribution) and be prepared to walk or stand for several hours.  Volunteers must register in advance.

Individuals and families as well as group volunteers may sign up to help with traffic control, registration, assisting recipients shop for food items, bagging food items, assisting recipients to their car, and loading food into vehicles. Volunteers should be able to lift up to 20 pounds and must at least 16 years of age. Teens under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. Assisting at food distribution sites is often a 2-4 hour commitment each time (not including travel time to the site).

Currently these volunteer opportunities occur in Albuquerque at three locations as well as in Jemez Pueblo, Cuba, Isleta Pueblo, Chaparral, Truth or Consequences, and Loving during select dates each month.

Court mandated volunteers may only register to assist in our warehouse. Please be sure to learn more about our requirements for court-mandated volunteers in advance.
