THANK YOU!

Every volunteer experience is different, but every experience helps solve hunger for our New Mexico neighbors experiencing hunger. Roadrunner Food Bank® seeks dedicated volunteers for both warehouse-based volunteer activities and non-warehouse volunteer opportunities. All you need to volunteer is a good attitude, closed-toed shoes, passion for our work, and the ability to do light physical labor including standing and lifting boxes. Your help is crucial for our mission to continue as we serve our neighbors in need. We invite you to join our team and volunteer!

Warehouse Volunteers – Individuals

As a volunteer at our Albuquerque warehouse, you will help prep food for distribution to provide to New Mexicans facing hunger all across our state. This includes repacking food items, sorting produce and other non-perishable food items, creating and filling food boxes, creating pallets of food for delivery, and more. Volunteer warehouse shifts generally start with a two-hour minimum commitment; however, individual volunteers can register for longer volunteer shifts.

Anyone eight years old and older can volunteer. Children and teens up to 15 years of age can volunteer with the appropriate number of adults accompanying them (see below). Teens 16 and older may volunteer without a parent/guardian present. However, teens younger than 18 may not supervise other children/teens while volunteering.

Children and Chaperones Per Child/Teen

  • 8-10 years of age – 1 adult per 3 children
  • 11-15 years of age – 1 adult per 4 children/teens
  • 16-18 years of age – may volunteer without an adult present but may not supervise younger children/teens
  • 16 years of age and older – may volunteer at our community based drive through food distributions with adult supervision

Additional information can be found at the bottom of this page in our Policies and FAQs document which provides details about bringing children to volunteer, people with disabilities who would like to help out, general warehouse policies, and frequently asked questions.

Warehouse Volunteers – Registration

Individuals interested in volunteering in our warehouse should use our online registration portal. The portal is best used for single-person volunteer appointments only. The registration page allows you to create a username and password to view open volunteer dates and times. When you have successfully created a volunteer appointment, you will receive an email confirming your visit. If you do not receive an email, your appointment or change has not taken effect. Returning volunteers are able to login using their credentials.

Non-Warehouse Individual Volunteers

Volunteers have the opportunity to use their talents, specialized skills, experience, and knowledge to help the food bank with special projects and unique programs that help the food bank operate and strengthen our capacity to serve New Mexicans experiencing hunger. We encourage you to ask us and learn more about the volunteer activities that take place outside the scope of the warehouse. Many of these non-warehouse volunteer opportunities take place in the community, such as helping at food distributions, assisting clients over the phone and in person, using multiple languages to interact with clients, performing a variety of administrative tasks, and more!

Skill-based volunteers are matched with the right project and right activity. Our goal is to provide you with a positive volunteer experience while helping accomplish important work for the food bank, too!

Virtual Volunteers

Roadrunner Food Bank has virtual volunteer opportunities for people who are willing and able to help our public services outreach team in our virtual Help Center. There are two types of Help Center Virtual Volunteers. To learn more about these opportunities, visit our Help Center Volunteering page.

Thank you for your gift of time and talents! We look forward to meeting you!
